The TREE is finally gone.

Earth… we have plenty of that.  We are tracking a good deal of it into our house.  It can also refer to the land we have.

Wind…  ceiling fans and air conditioner!!

Fire…  we now have our propane gas hooked up to our stove, water heater and heater, which means we can cook on our gas cooktop.

Water… nice to be able to wash our hands, use the water closet, etc.

Sooo… we now only lack cosmetic stuff – finishing the floor (target date Tuesday) and a bit more tile work, then we can move.  I finally can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Okay, ladies, this is getting out of hand. No one is pregnant. Sorry to let you down.

I’m going back to school. FOLK SCHOOL, that is!

I got my confirmation letter yesterday.

Sorry for the fuzziness of the pictures. My scanner is not hooked up. One of the disadvantages of being in a temporary living arrangement. :(

I have wanted to take a spinning class with Judith for almost as long as I have been spinning. This opportunity came up, and I jumped right in. The class isn’t until January. I’m not sure I can wait!

Sorry if I yanked your chain too much on this. I really wasn’t meaning to.

They finally have ALL our of gable windows installed!!  That means we can FINALLY run our air conditioner, and get our wood floors finished.  WOOT!!!  We are still having a hard time remembering we have electricity.  We were looking up in the linen closet (which does not have a light) and finally realized we could turn on the hall light to see what we were looking for in there.  Our refrigerator has not forgotten, though and has been running like a trooper for almost a week.  We still lack one day of the plumbing being done (is supposed to be finished Monday).  Move in date is getting sooner.

I had some more excitement today which I will share with you later as soon as I get definite confirmation on it.

I almost cried when I took this off the loom.  Not because it was a disaster, but rather because I finally had my “aha” moment and realized why weavers go through all the aggravation of warping a loom.  You see, I resisted weaving for a long time thinking it would be way too much hassle, etc.
For this reason, I won’t talk anyone into weaving.  It took me some time to decide it was “for me”.  I did find out that once you have the procedure worked out, it really isn’t that much work.

When I released this supple shawl from the loom, I felt as if I were plucking golden apples.  It far exceeded my expectations.  The colors are lovely, the technical aspects please even me, and when I draped it around my shoulders, it warmed my soul as well as my body.

The nuances of the different colors of hanspsun are washed out in this photograph.  This one still isn’t perfect, but maybe you can get an idea, especially if you click on the link and go to the bigger photos.

Sometime this fall, when we get settled and get another pasture fenced in, this little boy is coming home.

”Little Ricky” is his nickname.  His real name is Mini Hot Fudge Sundae.

ETA since Sally asked…

“Little Ricky” is immature (less than 2 yr. old), but not a baby, and definitely not one born to us.

We have chosen him for our herd sire.

This is the shawl I am working on now. I am feeling especially pleased with myself for learning to wind a warp on a warping board. This time, I went all out – this shawl is 24″ wide and will be around 72″ long. I decided to go easy and not weave any type of pattern this time, though.

This picture was taken near the beginning. I am more than half way through now.

It was pouring down rain, but plenty of fun was being had in my studio.  Why?  Because Sally and her “girls”, Kate and Lisanne came to visit.  (She made a very nice write up about their visit). She is an avid gardener and was happy to relieve us of our overflow of llama “beans”.  We all retired to the studio, and I got to give them some spinning demonstrations!  We had a blast.

Sally also brought some brownies and blondies.  Yum!  Thanks, Sally.  And thanks, Kate and Lisanne for coming along and adding to the fun!

It turned out “O.K.”  I think its being an acrylic/wool blend made it not be very forgiving of my mistakes.  I do really like how the patterning shaped up.

A better idea of how it is being used is in this picture.
